Salisbury Arts Centre

AUTUMN SEASON LAUNCH

Along with the Autumn season the venue is launching a brand new logo and image!  Over the past six months the staff and board at the Arts Centre have been examining the Arts Centre and what it means.  The new logo reflects the organisations core values and has been inspired by the building.

To start the autumn season with a bang is our Open Day where audiences can find out a bit more about what the Arts Centre does and to get involved in lots of activities for free – from outdoor theatre and music to unusual performances, art exhibitions, a grafitti wall, dance and visual art workshops, circus skills and more. A perfect occasion for all the family to experience something new and includes special performances of Hoodwink’s Pleasure Garden and local performers on our main stage: it’s all yours competition, all happening on Saturday 6 September.

This October Salisbury Arts Centre are celebrating Dance Explosion with Wiltshire Dancing, giving audiences performances from some fantastic companies, including 2 FaCeD DaNcE, an all male street dance company. State of Matter sees them perform gravity defying moves, break dance, acrobatics and intense energy on Friday 24 October.

World music group, Osibisa, translated from Ghanaian means ‘criss cross rhythms will explode with happiness’ so you know exactly what to expect. Their unique fusion of African Caribbean, rock, jazz, Latin and R&B have led them to be known as the Godfathers of World Music. Catch this fantastic, highly energetic group on Friday 21 November.

Live Lunches are back with a kick featuring The Uplifter with music related to Reggae from Roots Reggae classics to 1960s Traditional Jamaican Ska. Experience these free music sessions while you enjoy delicious food from our cafĂ©. Also don’t miss performances from Linda Wood, the Hot Tamales, Tim Madden and more. Live Lunches are a great way to spend a Saturday lunchtime.

Classical theatre with a twist provides some interesting theatre featuring Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew and Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey. Miracle Theatre has given Shakespeare’s controversial romantic comedy a 21st century make-over that’s full of music and genuinely funny. Dorset Corset Theatre Company will thrill audiences with their fresh and new adaptation of Austen’s classic with live music, knockabout comedy and terrific performances. Catch Taming of the Shrew on Tuesday 30 September and Northanger Abbey on Wednesday 22 October.

The sell-out Barnstormers comedy nights are back for another season of laughs. Each night resident compere Kevin Precious will introduce three top acts from the London comedy circuit to tickle your funny bones, so kick start your weekend on the last Friday of the month.

There are a variety of events for children this autumn with films, theatre and family music concerts. Angel Heart Theatre presents their new production The Nightingale, a skilfully told tale about the perfection of nature, based on the story by Hans Christian Anderson. This performance for children aged 4+ and their family and friends is on Saturday 11 October.

The gallery space has a number of exhibitions including the Stone exhibition and our annual Small Pictures Exhibition, celebrating the work of local artists and displaying work in a mixture of media and subject, all united by their diminutive size. Prizes are awarded for the best pictures and an Audience Favourite award goes to the piece that receives the most votes by the visitors to the exhibition.

This season Salisbury Arts Centre are giving people something new with taster workshops for children, young people and adults to have a go. Learn to fuse glass, make a silver ring, or even create a short piece of animation. There are also our regular children’s and pottery workshops along with a whole series of dance workshops as part of Dance Explosion, including street dance, contemporary dance and belly dancing for ages 1 – 100.

Deryck Newland, Director of Salisbury Arts Centre says:

"This autumn we are launching our new logo, which we hope will become an iconic and recognisable shape across the County and beyond, helping us reflect and communicate what we stand for: passion, inspiration, challenge and stimulation!

We genuinely believe there is something for everyone in the autumn season and are especially excited by our new role as an important regional venue for dance and for families.

Join us for treats, thrills, adventures and surprises whoever you are or wherever you are from. We are waiting to greet you with a warm welcome and a memorable experience."
