CALL FOR WORKS BY MICHAEL CHARLTON

In February 2009 we will be holding an exhibition of work by Michael Charlton, one of the Arts Centre’s founder members.  Michael sadly died in June 2008 and this exhibition is a celebration of his work and his relationship with Salisbury Arts Centre. Mike was an internationally renowned illustrator and a Salisbury based artist and teacher.

For 25 years, from the late 1970s to the early 1990s, he helped present the exhibitions programme at the Centre and ran very popular, though rigorous, life drawing and painting classes. Well known for his fine talent, his generosity, humour and wisdom, he remained a dedicated and creative supporter of the Art Centre until his death earlier in the year.

As Mike was a local artist we are currently in the process of gathering together work for this exhibition.  We are hoping that anyone who has pieces by Mike would be kind enough to lend them to us for the duration of the exhibition.  If you have any of Mike’s work which you would be willing to lend to us from February to March 2009 please do contact Diana de Vere Cole on 01722 332294 or email diana.deverecole@btinternet.com.  Alternatively if you know anyone with pieces of Mike’s work please do let them know about our exhibition and our call for work.

We really hope that with your help we can create a wonderful celebratory retrospective exhibition to thank and celebrate Mike’s life.

Many thanks for your support.
