‘Midsummer Dreaming'
Tuesday 8 July 2008; 10.30 - 11.30am
Sarum Orchestra's summer project in Exeter House Special School and Woodford Valley Unit for Autism combines the evocative music of Purcell's Fairy Queen with the magical comedy of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. In workshops with the orchestra team (musicians, dancer, actor), pupils are creating songs, dances and dramatic pieces to share with each other and the audience at this informal concert.
This is Sarum Orchestra's third annual 'special needs' concert; these hold a unique and much valued place in Salisbury's cultural calendar, attracting capacity audiences who have been amazed and inspired by the power of the music and the music-making.

Established in 1986 under the artistic leadership of Howard Moody, Sarum Orchestra flourishes as Salisbury’s professional orchestra with a reputation for innovation, excellence and commissioning new music. Playing in residence at Salisbury Arts Centre, Sarum Orchestra draws on a pool of creative and inspired musicians to bring alive traditional and new music from diverse disciplines and cultures. Working with some of the most in-demand animateurs in the country, we build creative sessions for schools, young people, and community groups (notably those with specific educational needs) into each season. We are continually moved by the music we play and the skill and imagination of the composers who created it. If we can pass a little of this magic onto our audiences we are succeeding in our mission. Come and hear us soon!
"I am constantly amazed by Howard's musicality and the imaginative approach he brings to everything he does"
Sir John Eliot Gardiner: Patron - July 2006
