The very stuff of our home planet, stones holds a vital place in our collective imagination as it does in our cities and landscapes. From a pebble pocketed on a beach to craggy uncut cliffs, stones connects us to something bigger and timeless.
For artists the symbolic quality of stone is insperable from its physical presence and gravity. In this exhibition we celebrate ten contemporary sculptors with work ranging from abstract monoliths to figurative carving.

Exhibitions at Salisbury Arts Centre
Salisbury Arts Centre’s gallery space is home to a rolling programme of exhibitions. Recent highlights have included textiles from Alice Kettle and Textile Forum South West, films from video artist Lizzie Sykes, Venerating the Vessel – an exhibition between ceramicist Julie Ayton and artist Pru Maltby, and a photography exhibition by Antonio Briceno, a collaboration between Salisbury Arts Centre and Salisbury International Arts Festival.
Another highlight of recent years was the Yew Tree Exhibition, where over forty artists and makers used wood from a tree that had to be felled as part of the building redevelopment, and the Yew Tree education project exhibition by pupils at Salisbury High School and Pitton Pre-School.
An integral part of the Arts Centre and its mission, the gallery aims to be a high quality and accessible resource for visitors, local, regional and national artists, and community arts and artists.
