Tom Freshwater will describe the challenges and benefits of the National Trust choosing to explore, for the first time, the LGBTQ histories connected with its places during 2017, the 50th anniversary of the Sexual Offences Act in 1967. As well as sharing some of the stories of men and women from over 25 places in the care of the National Trust connected with LGBTQ heritage, the discussion will touch on the experience of introducing a new way of ‘Challenging History’ to such a large and well-established institution.

Tom Freshwater is the National Public Programmes Manager for National Trust. He leads a team to research, develop and deliver annual thematic programming across and beyond National Trust places.
