Feltmaking with Suzie Gutteridge
A ten week course open to all levels and abilities. Discover a range of techniques and processes including both wet and needle felting using a range of wools that culminate in the making of different projects.
Suzie Gutteridge is a multi media artist living and working in Salisbury. She holds a BA (Hons) in Textiles, Fashion and Fibre, having studied at Southampton University Winchester School of Art. She’s been tutoring this ten-week evening course for adults at Salisbury Arts Centre for six years.
Being passionate about the countryside, combining this with walking and collecting bits and pieces of wool attached to fences and branches along the way to “do something with”, Suzie loves experimenting with the use of a variety of wools, both prepared (ready washed and carded) and raw (straight from the sheep), colours and textures.
As well as continually developing her own artwork, recently including using stitch and dying, Suzie uses her workshops as the opportunity to pass on her skills and knowledge to others in a friendly, relaxed and welcoming environment.
Having developed a range of projects that can be explored during the course, in each session, Suzie encourages people to follow techniques demonstrated in a simple and straightforward way, helping them to develop work with their own creative flair. She supports everyone through a range of techniques and processes, e.g. experiencing the intrigue of creating a 3d piece from the initial laying out of layers of wool fibres, and the tactile and manipulative properties of differing wools.
