Illustrating Clay with Vilas Silverton
Design your own figurative characters and translate your drawings into three dimensions in this specialist ceramics workshop.
Vilas’ ceramics practice is informed by figurative and narrative work found in painting, drawing and street art. These images are transformed through one’s own practice via the limitless potential of clay.
My work is based upon and flows from my inner life of self enquiry that encompasses prayer, meditation and service. In my practice I concentrate on the spiritual heart, which encourages a simplicity that guides both my life and work.
In recent years, this output has expanded to include paintings, prints and the use of digital media. These developments have enriched my ceramic practice in which I am still drawn towards figurative and narrative pieces.
However, I am still deeply in love with clay. As a material, I am particularly inspired by the infinite number of ways it can be shaped, treated and used. Its limitless potential continues to engage and inspire me.
