We came and saw "Arctic Tale" this afternoon. However it was without the commentary which is intended to tell more about the effect of global warming on polar bears. The images were lovely but the whole point of the film was missed. We do feel slightly cheated and the audience were left with a false idea of the plight of animals in the Arctic. Please raise this with your suppliers.

Thank you for your comment. I am sorry to say that on Saturday we suffered from a number of technical problems which resulted in the lack of commentary on the film. Please accept our sincere apologies for this.

Here's a copy of an E mail I have sent to 30 friends: Let's have GOJO back soon.
I went to the Salisbury Arts Centre lunchtime brunch concert on Sunday last, 19th Oct., and it was an exceptionally enjoyable two hours, for a mere £4 and a good lunch for sweety money. Probably the best brunch concert I've been to there, and that's saying something because the standard is so high.

The band was the 'Girls Only Jazz Orchestra'. 'GOJO' is a very professional orchestra. I believe that a number of them are classically trained musicians. They have a very good female singer. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

GOJO Girls Only Jazz Orchestra. There's a trifle of dramatic licence in the title. Girls?; Several mature 'girls' included,
but all beautifully turned out and a delight to the eye as well as the ear. Consummate professionals.

Girls Only?; the conductor, who has bags of personality, is male. So is the drummer a 'he'.
He and the girls have put in a great deal of work to give such an excellent show.

Jazz?; Excellent, smooth, professional but more of a big band sound than jazz. Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Bennie Goodman etc.

I am going to book for Wednesday Dec 17th at The Verwood Hub. I'll be doing this in a couple of weeks time, 4th November. Want to come?

(Peter Heaver - 22 October 2008)

Hi Peter, Thank you for your coment and for letting your contacts know what a great time you had at the Arts Centre. Don't forget we regularly hold Big Band Brunch on a Sunday. the next one is taking place on Sunday 2 November 2008. It too only costs £4 and you can enjoya dlicious Sunday brunch meal alongside the music.

Hullo, I'm an Australian and I love Salisbury! I been there three times, twice even in winter!
I'm an artist myself and last time visited the Salisbury Arts Centre and enjoyed talking to your artists at the open day and relaxing to a display of Morris Dancing.
If I ever visit beautiful Salisbury again the Salisbury Arts Centre will definitely be on my agenda, in fact could I be placed on your Mailing List, if only for nostalgia's sake! Thanks. Neil

(Neil Hill - 29 August 2008)

Hi Neil. We're really glad you like Salisbury and the Arts Centre and will certainly add you to our mailing list. We're interested to hear about your last visit to us. The Open Day we're currently planning wont include Morris Dancing, but there will be lots of creative activites to have a go at (including break dancing!). We'll be in touch soon...

My wife and I attended the Sunday night performance of Hotel Medea. It was a fascinating performance. We had not previously attended a play using this format, where the audience is an integral part of the production. The overnight performance worked very well for us, and we would consider attending other such works. We are looking forward to seeing other productions from Zecora Ura and Para-Active in the future.
(Matthew Carlton - 27 May 2008)

Dear Matthew, Thank you for your comment. We're really pleased you enjoyed Hotel Medea. The production was presented by Salisbury International Arts Festival with support from the Arts Centre, Salisbury Playhouse and Theatreworks. We will pass your comments along to all the partners involved. Thanks again and we hope to see you at another event soon. With very best wishes.

Just to let you know how much we enjoyed the first Barnstormers Comedy Night and it was good to be able to take drinks into the performance. However at the intervals there were huge queues at the bar and although the staff were doing their best it was a long wait to get a drink. Would it be possible to pre-order interval drinks? Maybe the bar staff would be happy to prepare them whilst we are watching the performance.
Am really looking forward to the Festival - obviously a lot of hard work has gone into it which has resulted into a great programme. Thank you.

(June Clouston - 18 March 2008)

Dear June, Thanks for leaving us a comment. We are really glad you enjoyed the Barnstormers event, although we are sorry you had problems ordering a drink at the bar. As you will be aware the Arts Centre's main space is a very flexible space which can be changed according to the event. As such this includes being able to open the curtains which form the auditorium, to create an open space. As the main space is not therefore a separate room, but rather enclosed by curtains, noise travels very easily which means that we cannot take preorders for interval drinks. We would hate to disturb our audiences enjoying a performance (and in this case a comedy gig) by the noises of bar staff preparing the drinks. All the bar and cafe staff already have to be very quiet when a show is taking place, and from experience we know that preparing drinks for an interval is just too noisy!

For the Barnstormers events we always plan to have three fully trained members of bar staff working, and trying to get through customers as quickly as possible. Unfortunately because of the nature of our space the bar is quite small!

I do hope you can come along to another Barnstormers event soon and enjoy a few drinks at the bar . Don't forget the bar also remains open after Barnstormers events giving you another chance to enjoy a drink.

I recently held my 60th birthday party at the Salisbury Arts Centre. Every one of my guests thought the venue was very special and wish to compliment Polly and her staff in providing excellent service throughout the evening. Everything seem to come together so well, lighting, table arrangements and the technical services all seemed to blend together and set a wonderful scene for the party.

My grateful thanks to Becky whose catering expertise proved to be another hit with my guests. Not only was there plenty to eat but also the flavours were to die for! Three cheers for local produce!!

All in all it was a wonderful and memorable occasion, one which will linger on in my memory. Thank You!!

(Steve Lawes - 13 March 2008)

Hi Steve. Thanks for your comments. We're glad you had a good time and belated Happy Birthday!

I went to the NeXt Generation, with Lazy Habits, on Saturday and would like to say that I had a great time. I thought the event was well organised and the bands playing were fab. I will definitely be going again . Thanks Clare
(Clare Laken - 11 March 2008)

Hi Clare. Glad you had a good time. We did too! The Lazy Habits were great, and we hope to be planning another gig like Saturday's in September. We'll see you there!

All of your children's workshops are the week AFTER my son's half term. Do you take into account the differing dates of the schools when you set the dates?
(Anon - 30 January 2008)

All our holiday and half term activities are programmed in relation to the school holidays published by Wiltshire County Council. We unfortunately cannot programme more than one weeks worth of half term activity as the programme changes our usual run of events, and limits the number of performances we are able to hold during that week, as well as even occasionally changing our opening times.

I am sorry your son will not be able to join us for the half term activities this year. As I'm sure you are aware we hold regular termly workshops aimed at children and young people of all ages. Details of these can be found by clicking here. We will also be holding workshops during the Easter and summer holidays (details of which will be published in March). We hope you can find something your son will enjoy and will fit in around his school breaks.

I love your new website great job guys. How are you all ? x
(Anon - 14 November 2007)

Hi, Thanks for your comment - it's always nice to hear when people like the site! Everyone at the Arts Centre is very well thanks. We are holding a national conference today about the use of literature and the arts in health care so we are all very busy, but having fun! We hope you're having a good day too!

Hi Stonehenge School I love you alll xxxxx
(Anon - 14 November 2007)

Hello, very nice site, keep up the good job!
Admin good, very good.

(Anon - 29 October 2007)

I love the website. At school we are currently doing a project on the Salisbury Arts Centre and I am liking the website as their is plenty of information for my project so thanks !
(Anon - 17 October 2007)

We're so pleased you like the new website and can help with your project. You don't say which school you are from but we are always very happy to come out and visit schools and colleges to explain a little bit more about what we do. And it's not just schools who are interested in how we work. We also help university students who use Salisbury Arts Centre as a case study in some of their projects too. If you or your teachers would like us to come and have a chat with you about the Arts Centre or a specific strand of our work please do contact us.

Why do you not have a greater selection of films on? The Odeon has such a limited range and many of the smaller, so-called 'arthouse' features which attract favourable reviews are never shown here. the Harbour Lights is a long way to go for a night out! Is it a question of cost?
(Anon - 15 October 2007)

Thanks for your comment. As you are probably aware we programme all the films in association with the Salisbury International Arts Festival. We try to show a range of films which cannot be seen elsewhere in Salisbury and the district. As a multi art form venue we present a wide range of events including theatre, music and dance in addition to the film screenings and try to have a balance throughout our programme. We also ensure that many of the films we show reflect certain aspects of our work. For example we try to screen films which reflect our dedication towards youth arts (such as the Preloader Film Festival on Tuesday 23 October) and Disability Arts (such as Black Sun on Friday 9 November).

As Salisbury Arts Centre is busy on most nights of the week, with performances, workshops and room hirings. This means there is very little time to show more films. As you will be able to see this season we are even opening on extra Sundays to screen films which otherwise we wouldn't have the space to show. In the current season we are showing more film than ever before, and we have had a range of good comments regarding the assortment of screenings available. We will continue to programme films on the first Thursday of each month, and at other times we feel is appropriate. I do hope you can find some films you wish to see over the coming months.

Thank you for your reply I'm glad you liked my GOOD comment. and I'm from the Stonehenge school by the way
(Jason Piper - 15 October 2007)

Why are you not booking more folk/roots/Americana acts. Before the refurbishment we used to attend performances at least once a month now it's only about twice a year. I'm having to go to Bristol to see acts like Mary Gauthier, Eliza Gilykison, Slaid Cleaves and the excellent Uncle Earle. There are plenty of British/Irish /Scottish acts on the circuit too so what about it? Your music programme is sadly lacking .
(Sue Spencer - 10 October 2007)

Dear Sue, Thanks for your comment. As a multi purpose venue we try to programme a wide range of events from theatre to music, dance to exhibitions and lots more in between! We present a mixed programme which works together across the genres. We prioritise world music and dance and so have strong focus on this. In your comment you mention folk music. This season we have two fantastic folk artists - Eliza Carthy and Cara Dillon - coming to the venue. I hope you can come along and join us for some of these gigs. Thanks again.

Hello all you..!

How is evey1 doing..?..

x.x.

(Anon - 1 Oct 2007)

Hello people. wots up? I know a girl who went on work experience to your amazing venue and I think its magical the way you've done your website
(Jason Piper - 1 Oct 2007)

Hi Jason, Thanks for your comment. We're glad your friend enjoyed work experience here. We always try to make sure work experience students get to see the wide range of activities, and learn more about what the staff do on a day to day basis. Thanks for your comments about our magical website!

When are you going to start putting on some decent bands again?
(Anon - 28 Sept 2007)

This is quite a difficult comment to respond to! What sort of bands would you like to see?

We currently try to programme a wide variety of music and bands. In the past year we have had some major artists including Seth Lakeman, Wilko Johnson, Whole Lotta Led and T & La Touche perform. All in addition to all our regular music gigs which include the local Bass Connection events, Passenger Club gigs, Sarum Orchestra concerts and folk gigs including Steve Knightley. This autumn we also have a range of musicians at the Arts Centre including a Jimi Hendrix tribute, Cara Dillon and Eliza Carthy. Check out the What's On section of this site to see what else we have coming up. Don't forget you can also come and enjoy music and bands for free at our regular Live Lunch events. Again details can be found in the What's On section. If you can't find anything of interest in this season's programme please do check back regularly, or join our mailing list. The spring 2008 season will be announced later this year, so please do keep an eye out for music gigs taking place in the New Year.

When we programme music and bands at Salisbury Arts Centre we try to make sure we are not duplicating performances which are already taking place elsewhere in the region, such as in local pubs and at the City Hall. If you have any further ideas about the sort of bands you'd like to see do let us know. We are always keen to hear what our audience are looking for!

Hi all!
How are you?

(Anon - 11 September 2007)

Thanks for your message. Everyone at Salisbury Arts Centre is very well thanks! How are you?

Effective website but I notice the whats on section does not show whats on the current day, only following days
(eg Cafe Scientific listed for October, not today 11th Sept) - this is an easy error for your web designers to fix.

(John Bruce - 11 September 2007)

Thanks for notifying us of this problem. Once events have taken place they appear in the archive section of this website. Events are currently being archived a day too early. I have spoken to our web designers about this and it will be fixed shortly. For a really quick way to find out what's on at the Arts Centre today, use the calendar search facility on the right hand side of the page. Many thanks.

This problem was fixed on 12 September. Thanks again for letting us know.

'Congratulations on the new website - it's so easy to see what's on. The email service will really help those of us who live further afield. Thanks and well done!'
